About

Hi, I'm Kim, the owner behind Oakwood Knits!
Even though I had known how to knit for a long time, I didn’t take it too seriously until 2020. In that year I became a first time mom - and while it was and is the most fulfilling experience I have had, it is also the hardest thing I have ever done. It would have been a huge challenge on its own, let alone happening during the height of the pandemic, and working a stressful full time job on top of it all. I found myself turning to knitting in order to find a source of calm during the stressful days. I began experimenting with my own designs in 2021, and also became slightly obsessed with knitting socks. I have since released about 20 knitting patterns (most of them socks!).
In 2023 I was laid off my job and decided it was time to take a break from a dozen+ year career in tech due to burnout. I learned how to dye yarn, and opened my yarn shop online. Dyeing yarn has since become a source of recovery and expression of creativity for me. I studied studio art & art history in college, and I have always loved the act of creating even though it took a backseat for a few years. While I think we are so fortunate to live in this age of technology where new things become possible every day, there is nothing that can compare to the joyful feeling of making something real by hand. Every skein of yarn is hand-dyed with care and joy, and I hope it will bring you as much joy to work with it!
I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and now reside in the Bay Area, California, with my husband and daughter.
